• PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

     

    HOMEROOM PARENTS—These dedicated parents, two or three from each classroom, plan and host the three classroom parties held each year:  Fall Fest, Winter Party, and Valentine’s Party.  Homeroom parents may assist in the classroom at other times, as requested by the classroom teacher.  If you are interested in helping in the classroom, contact Jen Weitzel @ jweitzel@lfdriscoll.com.
     

    LITERACY PARTNERS PROGRAM —This program provides an educational assembly and free book of the student’s choice to each child in the school three times per year.  A committee of parents selects appropriate books for each grade level and volunteer parents take them to the classrooms for selection by the students.  If you would like to help with the book distributions, contact Abby Rigdon @ abbyrigdon@yahoo.com.

     

    HOLIDAY SHOPPE—This will be held the first Saturday in December from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.  It is an opportunity for the students to shop for family and friends, with free gift wrapping and crafts to make.  The Poinsettia pick-up is at this time and Book Fair Gift Certificates will be available for purchase.  This is a very fun morning!  To help set up or volunteer, please contact Amy Bornais @ ambornais@comcast.net or Tracy Markle @ tjmarkle@comcast.net. 
     
    SCHOOL STORE—The School Store is offered twice each month.  During their lunch recess, students will be able to purchase a variety of school related items, such as pencils, crayons, folders, etc.  If you would like to help on any of the School Store days, please contact Christina Mayer @ cckcc2007@yahoo.com.  
     
    FAMILY READING NIGHT—This is a wonderful free family event with storytelling, dance and song.  Bring a blanket, snuggle with your kids and enjoy.  It will be held in mid-March. Contact WHSA @ WhitfieldHSA@gmail.com.
     
    BOOK FAIRS—Our two annual events are week-long fairs with BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!  The Book Fairs are held the end of Sept and the end of February.  Both events requires the help of many parent volunteers, from setup until tear down the following Friday afternoon, with shifts being only 1 hour long each.  Contact Abby Rigdon @ abbyrigdon@yahoo.com.  
      
    BINGO NIGHT—This lively evening is one of our most popular events!  There are pizza, chicken, sodas, baked goods and, of course, BINGO!  The kids love the terrific prizes, so when the flyer is sent home, order your tickets early because they sell out quickly, as space is limited.     MEMORY BOOK—The annual memory book, available for purchase at the end of the school year, includes photos of all the classes, plus group photos of activities, as well as candid shots of the students on the playground.  If you are interested in helping with the production of the memory book, contact Christina Mayer @ cckcc2007@yahoo.com.
     
    GIFT OF LOVE—Every year the children are given the opportunity to make the holidays special for those less fortunate than themselves. With the assistance of area churches, each class is given information about a family in need of assistance.  The children may bring a gift to school for someone in the family.  The gifts are presented to representatives of the churches at an assembly in December.  For more information, please contact Abby Rigdon @ abbyrigdon@yahoo.com.
     
    ARTIST IN RESIDENCE—The Artist in Residence Program brings a professional artist to the school to work with all the children during their art classes to produce a permanent project for the school.  This program alternates years with our Author/Illustrator Visits.  
     

    AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR VISITS—Alternating years with the Artist in Residence Program, the Author/Illustrator program brings an author or illustrator of children’s books to our school for storytelling and question and answer assemblies with all the children.  This program is coordinated by our school librarian, Mrs. Hasson.

     

    WINTER POINSETTIA SALE —We offer beautiful poinsettias for sale in time for the winter holidays and gift certificates for Jake’s Greenhouse. Contact Paula Bailey @ pmuff@comcast.net.
     
    SPIRIT WEAR—Each Fall we offer a variety of clothing with the Wilson Bulldog logo on it.  Order forms are sent home in September.  For more information contact Michelle Coldren @ mlcold@verizon.net.  Spirit Wear will also be available for purchase at Meet The Teacher Night and the Holiday Shoppe.
     
    STUDENT DIRECTORY—The Whitfield Student Directory is a benefit of membership in the WHSA.  It includes a complete listing of Faculty and Staff and their extensions, the WHSA Board and contact information, Homeroom Parent lists with contact information, complete class lists and name, address, and phone numbers for all families wishing to be included.
