Classroom Information
Absence from School – Please call the office to inform us that your child is going to be absent. Your child’s homework will be sent home with his or her “homework buddy”. This homework may be completed any time during the week. It should be returned to me by the end of the week. When your child returns to school, please send an excuse within 3 days for the absence. After 3 days without an excuse it is an "unlawful" absence.
Homework Buddies – Each child has a “homework buddy”. When your third grader is absent, a “homework buddy” will be bringing home any important work done in class or assigned on the day of the absence.
School Lunches – If you plan to eat lunch with your child on any given day, call the office to have a lunch ordered for you. Please do not bring fast food into school for you or your child. Also, please review the lunch menu with your child. Give your child the opportunity to make an informed choice as to whether to pack or buy.
Lunch Money – Please send lunch money to school in a coin purse, zipped and marked plastic bag, wallet, or sealed envelope.
Personal Belongings – Please mark all personal items so that they can easily be identified. It is especially helpful to have coats, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, and book bags marked.
Birthdays – Due to District policy, students are not allowed to bring in birthday snacks/treats. We will still make the student's birthday a special day at school.
Folders, Folders, Folders – The homework folder that comes home each day is an attempt to help your child organize third grade papers. The “Leave At Home” pocket holds papers that are sent home for parents. The “Bring Back” pocket holds homework papers, as well as the child’s Assignment Book. Look for the Friday folder to come home every Friday. This folder must be signed and returned to school on Monday.
Homework - There are two main reasons for assigning homework. The first reason is to practice skills learned during class. They should be able to complete the homework on their own. If you find that they are having difficulty with an assignment, please send a note to school with the assignment. The second reason for homework is develop responsibility.
Assignment Books – You may be asked to check and sign the assignment books as needed throughout the school year.
Kleenex and Pencils – Two items that are always in demand in my classroom are tissues and pencils. Tissue donations throughout the school year would be appreciated. It would also be helpful if you could also keep your child supplied with extra pencils as well.
Book Orders – Book orders will be sent home about once a month. Your purchase of books through the book clubs enables me to earn bonus points that help me order “free books” for our third grade classroom library.
Classroom Rules – The students helped develop the rules during the first week of school.
1. Respect your classmates, teachers, and the classroom.
2. Clean up after yourself and keep your area clean.
3. No talking when someone else is talking
4. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Class Dojo - I am using an app/website called Class Dojo as my behavior management system this year. For more information please contact Mrs. Shuker.
